Customers have used SENDMAIL in a number of ways, a few examples
are listed below. Using intranets, or standard phone lines or wireless
technologies to access the internet, SoftPLC systems can easily and securely be
used to send email messages containing valuable realtime process data.
- Remote Notification. When the SoftPLC is located
remotely, such as in a pipeline or pumping application, SoftPLC can send an
email to a technician in the event of a fault, or can send production
information back to headquarters.
- Data Acquisition and Reporting. SoftPLC can log data to
a variety of file formats, such as text, .csv, and .xml. Periodically, or based
on specific events, SENDMAIL can be used to send the logged data to another
system for analysis. Rather than have a SCADA system continuously poll for data
over a network, let SoftPLC send the data every now and then!
- Predictive Maintenance. Programming in the expected life
cycle of the equipment being controlled by SoftPLC (such as the number of times
a solenoid can be energized before it needs to be replaced), and then
triggering an email to a technician to notify them in advance that a part is
approaching the end of its life can reduce unscheduled downtime.
- Material Call Systems. Send an email to a forklift
driver's digital pager of which components are needed at a particular assembly
station...reducing possible waiting time.
- Automated System Backup. Email a backup of the PLC logic
and documentation to a network file server to ensure changes are saved and a
backup copy is made.
Existing users in support can receive the SENDMAIL
instruction and documentation at no charge by sending
an email to our support department.
