SoftPLC Gateways bridge devices on one network to devices on other networks. Each Gateway is equipped with a comprehensive set of drivers, which you can mix and match with hardware configurations to meet your network bridging needs.

The Smart Gateway is a value-priced option that includes a 4-port 10/100 BaseT Ethernet managed switch with PoE (optional fiber interface), (5) serial RS-232 ports, support for up to (3) user selectable PCI-104 network interface cards. Optionally, the COM6 port can be factory configured for RS-485, A-B RIO or an internal phone modem for remote access.

SoftPLC Gateways can be used in a wide variety of applications:

  • Communicate data between devices on different network types.
  • Collect data from devices on multiple network types and send it to a higher level system.
  • An Ethernet master can send data to many serial slave devices.
  • Integrate multiple master devices onto serial and Ethernet networks.
  • A serial master can send data to multiple Ethernet slaves.
  • Slave devices with hard coded ID's can be placed on different ports so a single master can control them.
  • A single Ethernet master can control multiple slave networks with identical slaves.


Protocols Top

All SoftPLC Gateways include drivers and hardware to support serial and Ethernet protocols. With the addition of bus interface card(s), industrial networks can also be supported. All protocol drivers are included in each Gateway. The list below includes the most popular protocols. Others may be available, or can be added. A Smart Gateway includes the Gateway base unit plus any add-in communication cards required. With the first purchase, Gateway Configuration Software is required.
